McMullan welcomes money for rural transport
Sinn Féin rural affairs spokesperson Oliver McMullan has welcomed the investment of £800k by Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill to improve rural transport.
Mr McMullan said,
“The £800k announced by DARD Minister Michelle O’Neill will be used in conjunction with money from the Department of Regional Development to improve community and public transport in rural areas.
“This money will be used by Rural Community Transport Partnerships to purchase vehicles to deliver the Rural Community Transport Scheme, which services isolated rural communities.
“Many of these communities rely on public transport to get into town centres to carry out their business or to get to school or medical appointments.
“The new environmental friendly vehicles will ensure the isolation of these communities is reduced.
“I commend the collaboration between two different departments on a project which will improve the quality of life for so many people.”
