Time for Enda to pick up the phone to Micheál - Adams

23 March, 2016 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has said it is unacceptable that the Dáil was adjourned yesterday and will not sit again until the 6th April.

Speaking as the Sinn Féin Dáil team prepared to head to Belfast today for a 1916 centenary event with MLA colleagues at Stormont, Deputy Adams continued; “its little surprise that some independents haven’t strayed too far away from their mother parties for long’.

Teachta Adams said:

“Yesterday we had a day of statements in the Dáil that will not bring about a single change in the lives of ordinary citizens. The Dáil now stands adjourned and will not meet again until the 6th April. That is simply unacceptable.

“The reality is that the Dáil could be meeting today, but Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil don’t want that. They want to jockey for position instead and are working together to ensure that issues facing ordinary people are not being be dealt with in any meaningful way.

“It’s time for Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin to sit down and talk. We’ve had gene-pool independents in recent days making overtures to Fine Gael in particular, but it’s all bluster. The reality is that no other combination of parties or TDs has the numbers to form a government, other than Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

“It’s little surprise that some independents haven’t strayed too away from their mother parties for long, despite being given a mandate to provide independent voices in the Dáil.” ENDS
