Minister’s failure to rule out Moore St appeal ‘appalling’– Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD
Sinn Féin’s Aengus Ó Snodaigh has responded to the refusal of Heritage Minister Heather Humphreys to rule out an appeal against the High Court's Moore Street judgement.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:
“A phenomenal victory was secured last Friday. It beggars belief that it took the relatives of our 1916 heroes to take that case and to bring it to court. The fact is that if the judgement had not gone ahead, Moore Street would have been destroyed.
“It is outrageous that the state defended the destruction of most important site in modern Irish history. It is also appalling that our Heritage Minister has not ruled out an appeal against the High Court decision to protect Moore Street.
“We must respect the verdict of the court and preserve and Moore Street as a revolutionary quarter.
“It is vital that the incoming government honours the battlefield site and builds on its potential, not auction it off to the highest bidder as the outgoing government have attempted to do”
