There is a willingness to resolve issues at La Salle – Paul Maskey

West Belfast MP Paul Maskey met this evening with the Board of Governors from De La Salle and with the CCMS.

He said the meeting was very worthwhile and believes there is a willingness to urgently resolve the issues at the school.

Paul Maskey said:

"I was delighted to hear that many of the teachers are already back at work.

“I was also informed that a seven-point plan has been agreed between the teachers' unions, the governors and CCMS. I believe with good will all round that this seven-point plan can address all of the difficulties in the school.

“I am impressed with the expertise and professionalism of the new associate principal Imelda Jordan and I am convinced she will work tirelessly to find an acceptable resolution.

“I have asked that a clear time scale for this plan be set out so that everyone, including parents and the students can have confidence there will be a speedy resolution to problems at the school.

“If this is done I believe that this would create the space for the concerned parents to end the protests, for everyone to move forward in a positive manner and to ensure that the focus is on the education of the pupils, particularly those doing exams this year.

“I am aware there are further meetings taking place over the next few days and I sincerely hope the efforts of all involved will be successful and that an early conclusion will be found.”
