British government must face up to its role in the conflict
Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness has said the British government must face up to its role in the conflict and deal with the legacy of the past.
Speaking at a the launch of a booklet entitled 'Legacy - the outstanding issues' in Belfast tonight, Mr McGuinness said;
"Dealing with the legacy of the past is a huge issue for the British government and no matter what they do it is not going away.
"In her public utterances Theresa Villiers recognises that this issue has to be resolved but in reality she has been back-peddling for some time when it comes to living up to the commitments made in successive agreements.
"Quite simply the British government must face up to its role in the conflict.
"We also recognise there are challenges for republicans but we are up for those challenges.
"Relatives of those killed in the conflict, some of whom have been campaigning with great dedication for more than 40 years, deserve the truth and Sinn Féin will continue to support them in that campaign."
