Michael O’ Leary the only person talking nonsense - Doherty

16 April, 2016 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty has dismissed comments made today by business man Michael O’ Leary as being nonsensical and totally out of step with Sinn Féin policy.

Deputy Doherty said:

“Michael O’ Leary’s comments this morning, saying Sinn Féin intends to charge tax of 80 or 90 per cent, are nonsense and have no basis in reality. Sinn Féin has never argued for tax rates this high. In fact it is Micheal O’ Leary who is “utterly crazy” in this regard.

“He is wrong in suggesting that this is in line with our economic policies. While we believe that those with the deepest pockets should pay the biggest share for our public services, nobody has ever articulated that we would impose such punitive tax levies.

“Sinn Féin believes in fair and progressive taxation. We have proposed that income over €100,000 should be subject to an additional seven per cent of tax, which falls nowhere near that which Mr O’ Leary is suggesting. His outlandish claims are not supported by the facts and are simply untrue.”
