Fianna Fáil leadership has abandoned Republican values - Adams
Responding this afternoon to remarks made by the Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has said "the Fianna Fáil leader's obsession with Sinn Féin is bizarre, extending not only to his refusal to enter Government, but to dominating Fianna Fáil events as well".
Teachta Adams said:
“Micheál Martin’s remarks at Fianna Fáil set-piece events more often than not tend to focus more on Sinn Féin than they do his own party. One would think he would have something more productive to offer his party faithful.
"Perhaps it’s not surprising when you consider the Fianna Fáil leadership has long since abandoned the ordinary communities and working families it was founded to represent.
"Under Micheál Martin, though the party occasionally pays lip service to its Republican roots of equality and unity, has long since given up any notion of bringing the Republic proclaimed in 1916 to fruition. It has, under recent leaderships, become the party of commercial interests and gombeen men that Liam Mellows foretold would accept partition in their own interest.
"The Fianna Fáil leader's obsession with Sinn Féin is a bit bizarre, extending not only to his refusal to enter Government by refusing to countenance Sinn Féin leading the Opposition, but to dominating Fianna Fáil events as well."
