SDLP objections to Sinn Féin Ard Fheis absurd

18 April, 2016 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin's John O'Dowd has said it beggars belief that the SDLP’s Dolores Kelly has complained about the national broadcaster RTÉ covering Sinn Féin’s annual Ard Fheis.

Mr O'Dowd said;

“Sinn Féin is the only all-Ireland party which has public representatives right across the 32 Counties.

“This weekend on the eve of the centenary of the Easter Rising we will be holding our annual Ard Fheis in Dublin and the National Convention Centre will see over 2,000 delegates, visitors and observers taking part along with international guests.

“It’s usual for all major party conferences to be covered by the media.

“The SDLP claim to be a nationalist party. If they stood for election across the island they may be entitled to the same coverage. That however isn’t the case.

“The SDLP say in their manifesto that Irish unity is something they aspire to.

“It seems that the SDLP is more interested in attempting to keep Sinn Féin off the airwaves than promoting the message of Irish unity.”
