Government should stop running scared of the electorate - Joe Reilly

14 February, 2005

Sinn Féin candidate for the Meath by-election, Councillor Joe Reilly has welcomed Fine Gael's call for an early by-election in Meath and has called on the Government to support it.

Speaking in Meath today he said, "I welcome the call from the Fine Gael leader for the writ to be moved to make way for the election to take place before St. Patrick's Day. The people of Meath have waited long enough for this election, they have been under represented since November and that's long enough. The election should go ahead as early as possible and should be held on a Saturday to maximise voter turnout.

"The Government should stop running scared of the electorate and support the moving of the writ tomorrow." ENDS
