City Council rule incineration out of City development Plan
Sinn Féin Dublin spokesperson on Environment and Representative for Dublin South East, Cllr. Daithí Doolan, has expressed his delight, "that City Council have voted to exclude incineration from the City Development Plan".
Speaking after the debate in City Hall tonight, Cllr. Doolan said, "tonight's vote, in support of the Sinn Féin motion, received cross party support and has sent a loud and clear message to the Minister for Environment, Dublin will not accept incineration. Our communities and the people we represent will not be bullied by faceless bureaucrats. Our mandate must be respected."
"Nobody doubts this city faces a waste crisis. This motion will now allow us to put in place a comprehensive waste management plan that actually tackles the waste crisis this city faces. Sinn Féin will continue to campaign for the adoption of a Zero Waste Strategy which aims to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded, "that the city management and government ministers listen to those of us who have a mandate to run this city and act accordingly". ENDS
