Ferris welcomes election of Joe Healy as IFA president
Speaking after the election of Galway farmer Joe Healy to the presidency of the Irish Farmers’ Association, Sinn Féin agriculture spokesman, Martin Ferris TD said he welcomed the election.
Deputy Ferris said:
“There has been much turmoil in the IFA over the past year and I hope this election, especially of someone who has no history in the leadership of the Association, marks the end of that troubled period.
“Irish farmers need strong leadership and I hope that Joe Healy can bring unity and strength to the job and to the IFA, so that it can get back to what its founders intended it for; to defend and advocate for Irish agriculture and all who work in the sector.
“I congratulate Joe Healy and I look forward to meeting him soon to say so in person and to examine how we can work together for Irish farmers and for rural communities.”
