Cllr Malachy Quinn welcomes Dáil debate on Insurance Costs

26 April, 2016 - by Malachy Quinn

Balbriggan Sinn Féin Cllr Malachy Quinn has welcomed the dáil debate on insurance costs that took place in the last Week.

Cllr Quinn said:

“It is clear to anybody that the dramatic increases in the cost of motor insurance are creating huge problems, with our young and rural communities in the towns of Fingal. I have looked to raise this issue with my party colleague Deputy Louise O’Reilly and I am calling on the Oireachtas to begin to address this unnecessary additional financial burden as soon as possible.

“A deeper look at the business model underpinning the insurance industry in Ireland is required too though. Correspondence which Sinn Féin has received from the Central Bank points to a long term unsustainable way of doing business as representing the real reason behind the jumps in premiums.

“I hope the debates in the coming weeks in the Oireachtas produce some positive ideas and consensus as to how this urgent issue can be tackled, residents and businesses of Fingal who rely heavily on cars as well as other vehicles to go to and from work are beholden to insurance companies”

“I would welcome a pro-active approach to dealing with insurance cost involving the relevant Oireachtas select Committee meeting with insurance companies to address these increases”
