Adams challenges Nesbitt

26 April, 2016 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has accused the UUP Leader Mike Nesbitt of "placing narrow party electoral interests above those of communities" and he has rejected Mr. Nesbitt’s accusation that Sinn Féin ‘has drawn the road map’ for armed groups.

The Sinn Féin President said:

"Sinn Féin has consistently condemned these armed groups and demanded that they stop.

"Sinn Féin is unequivocal about this. Their actions threaten our communities and their intention is to drag us back to the past.

"Mike Nesbitt, who has in the recent past shared platforms with unionist paramilitary groups which are still in existence and still active, should be joining with me and echoing my call.

"I want to repeat my appeal for all candidates in the Assembly election to stand together and unambiguously condemn and oppose the actions of all armed groups, including those responsible for the murder of Michael McGibbon."
