Deputy McDonald and Cllr Boylan stand with the community of Constitution Hill
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Central Mary Lou McDonald and Cllr Janice Boylan this morning joined women and children at a peaceful protest on Constitution Hill calling on Luas CrossCity to cease all work until the children of the complex have a safe play area.
Cllr Boylan said:
“The residents of the area have been to meet with DCC, Luas, GDA and DIT over the last number of weeks and after yesterday's meeting they felt the need to start back up the peaceful protest.
The needs of the children are just not being considered and the danger they are placed in daily is not to be brushed over.”
Speaking after joining the residents at the protest this morning Deputy McDonald said:
"There are 69 children in the flat complex with nowhere safe to play. And we all know children will be children, they will try play anywhere they can even if the place they live has been turned into a concrete jungle.
On Sunday morning we heard of a young girl from the complex who got stuck between the so called safety hoarding and the railings of the flats. The residents are fearful that sooner or later there will be a severe injury or worse still a death.
The protest will go on until the residents feel like they have been heard and a viable time frame is provided to them for the delivery of their much needed playground.”
