Planning approval for new National Children’s Hospital welcome – Ó Caoláin
The decision of An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission for the new National Paediatric Hospital on the grounds of St. James Hospital in Dublin has been welcomed by Sinn Féin Dáil Deputy and Health Spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin.
The Sinn Féin Teachta Dála, while acknowledging the concerns of some voices on the choice of site, states that with approval now issued to proceed, the St. James co-location proposal is the clear winner in terms of earliest prospect of delivery.
Works are expected to get underway this summer with a final delivery date in 2020.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said;
“I very much welcome the Bord Pleanála decision as this allows the project to replace the existing three children’s hospital sites to get underway and to come into service by the end of this decade. It simply cannot happen soon enough.
“While I understand and share some of the concerns expressed by some voices, I believe that these can be overcome. The critical consideration is that we secure a state of the art children’s hospital facility as speedily as possible and today’s news heralds that.”
