John Brady calls on new minister for housing to intervene in situation developing at Wicklow County Council offices
Speaking in the Dáil this evening Sinn Féin Wicklow TD John Brady has called on the new Minister for Housing Simon Coveney to intervene in a situation which has seen two homeless people locked into Wicklow County Council offices with nowhere else to go.
The Council have now locked all the windows, turned the heating up and are stopping food getting into the building in an attempt to get them to leave.
Deputy Brady said;
“In December 2014 the then minister for the Environment Alan Kelly stated that by Christmas 2014 there would no reason for anybody to sleep rough and that anyone who wanted a bed will get one.
“However, tonight in the offices of Wicklow County Council in Bray two homeless men are starting to settle down for their second night, sleeping in the council building after refusing to leave yesterday because they had nowhere else to go, and no emergency accommodation.
“The windows have now been locked to stop food getting to the two men. There is effectively an attempt to starve the men back onto the streets; there is no bed for them or for many more.
“Can I ask the New Minister to personally intervene in this scandalous situation?”
