Adams thanks candidates, families and supporters
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has thanked “all of those who stood for Sinn Féin in the Assembly election; their families and all of those who voted for the party.”
The Sinn Féin leader said:
"On behalf of all of the Sinn Féin candidates who stood in the Assembly election I want to thank everyone who voted for our party.
"I also want to thank all of the Sinn Féin candidates who worked very hard during a long election campaign; and their families who supported them during this period.
"All of the successful Sinn Féin MLAs are honoured to receive a new mandate to continue to represent the people and the communities of the north.
"Along with our colleagues who were recently elected to the Dáil and the Seanad we pledge to continue our efforts in the time ahead to ensure that real solutions are found to the problems affecting our communities.
"In particular our focus will be on job creation; the provision of homes; and the delivery of the education and employment opportunities our young people need.
"Because of the outworking of the general election in the south and the machinations of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil the new administrations north and south will commence their work at the same time.
"Sinn Féin is committed to bringing about the real change that citizens have voted for, including ending divisions and uniting the people of Ireland. We will stand by our election commitments."
