McGuinness thanks Sinn Féin voters for renewed mandate
Speaking at the conclusion of the election count Martin McGuinness said,
‘I would like to thank our candidates and supporters who worked tirelessly throughout this campaign to promote the republican vision of an equal, united and prosperous Ireland.
“I would also like to thank the voters who once again placed their trust in Sinn Féin to lead the process of change and to deliver for all in our society.
“It is incumbent on all of those with a mandate to work together for the greater good in the face of many challenges including ongoing Tory attacks on our public services, poverty, inequality and division.
“On Monday we will be entering discussions to agree and conclude a deliverable programme of government. This programme must build on the progress to date and must represent a further step in the New Start for our institutions.
“I believe that with good will from all parties we can build a prosperous economy and deliver jobs, we can invest in our health and public services, and we can continue to build reconciliation, unity and equality.”
