Mayor Sarah Holland condemns racist attack

9 May, 2016 - by Sarah Holland

The Mayor of South Dublin County, Sinn Féin Councillor Sarah Holland, has condemned in the strongest terms the racist attack on the Afghan Family near Marlay Park.

She said:

“I am utterly disgusted that this family, including a 13 year old boy, have been attacked in our community.

“The father of this family has said he no longer feels safe here – this family fled Afghanistan because of fears for their lives and now they don’t feel safe here in the leafy suburbs of Rathfarnham.

“The people who carried out this attack are mindless thugs, and representative of no one.”

The attack happened after a day in Marlay Park, and the boys were allegedly told that they would be killed the next time.

Cllr Holland went on to say

“There is a rally organised by United Against Racism at 7pm Tuesday 10th May, beside the Nutgrove Shopping Centre.

I would urge members of the public to attend – both to show solidarity with the family, and to join with us in condemning this mindless racism.”
