Minister Coveney has a lot of questions to answer on Irish Water –Ó Broin

9 May, 2016 - by Eoin Ó Broin TD

Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Mid-West Eoin Ó Broin has called on the Minister Coveney to immediately make a statement on the governance issues surrounding Irish Water.

Deputy Ó Broin said:

“Irish Water has signed off on a tax free retirement package for John Tierney and has renewed its lease for ten years in Dublin city centre.

“Both the former Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly and the new Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government have stated they know nothing about either of these two deals.

“With the status of Irish Water and water charges uncertain I do not see the merit in renewing the lease for such a length of time. “

Ó Broin continued:

“Value for money does not seem to be at the forefront of the company’s decision making, as it has been reported that Irish Water neglected to view sites outside certain postcodes within Dublin.

“I have submitted questions to Minister Coveney’s department calling on him to clarify the situation surrounding both Mr. Tierney’s retirement plan and the office leasing arrangements for Irish Water.”
