People jailed as water charges suspended – Brady

10 May, 2016 - by John Brady TD

Sinn Féin TD John Brady has said that it is disgraceful that two men have been remanded in custody today for protesting against the now suspended water charges. The Wicklow TD said that the Government has admitted that water charges are on the way out by suspending them in the immediate future.

Speaking from outside Bray Courthouse today, Deputy Brady said:

“It is disgraceful that Sean Doyle and Eamon McGrath have been remanded in custody for protesting against water charges. It is the petty revenge of a Government that did not get its own way with water charges.

“The Government has admitted that domestic water charges are on the way out by suspending water charges in the immediate future. This would not have happened without demonstrations and protests against this unfair and unjust tax.”
