Cullinane appointed Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform
David Cullinane, Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, was appointed today as party spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform and National Workers Rights.
“I would like to thank Gerry Adams for this appointment and I look forward to working very closely with my colleague Mary Lou McDonald who will continue to have a strong input on this portfolio.
“It is my objective to deliver a realistic, deliverable and ambitious social and economic investment plan. It will be one that will focus on the issues affecting the people of Ireland today in terms of investment in housing, health, childcare and public transport.
“I look forward to building upon Sinn Féin’s commitment to prioritise low and middle income workers in the next round of pay negotiations and to deal with issues such as pay equality and job security within the public sector.
“The State should become a living wage employer as a first step towards the wider introduction of the living wage across all sectors.
“I want to tackle the uncertainty created by insecure and low-hour contracts by introducing legislation that provides for Fair Hours contracts.
“Sinn Féin will work to strengthen compliance and enforcement of employment and workers’ rights through legislative changes and by providing additional resources to the Workplace Relations Commission Inspection Services.”
