Every effort must be made to save jobs at Suir Pharma Ireland – Quinlivan

17 May, 2016 - by Maurice Quinlivan TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on jobs, Maurice Quinlivan TD has expressed his concern following the news that over 130 jobs are at risk in Suir Pharma Ireland Ltd based in Clonmel.

Deputy Quinlivan said:

“It is disappointing to hear the news that this company has gone into liquidation and I’m sure it is a shock for the workers involved. Every effort must be made to save as many of these jobs as possible.

“The South East has one of the highest unemployment rates in the State. Counties like Tipperary are not feeling any recovery and any job losses in these areas are all the more devastating.

“The pharmaceutical sector is the key economic driver in the South East and any job losses in this sector are of serious concern. I will be raising this with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the earliest opportunity. This announcement proves that we cannot take our eye off the ball when it comes to job retention.”
