18 May, 2016 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has travelled to Cuba this week to take part in talks as part of the Colombian peace process.

Ms McCann said;

"Sinn Féin supports the ongoing efforts to find a peaceful and sustainable solution to the decades-long conflict in Colombia.

"The governments of Cuba and Norway, as guarantors of the peace talks currently taking place between the Colombian government and the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC), have invited Sinn Féin to take part in a session of the talks to share our experiences of peace building.

"The talks in Havana look at the role of women and former prisoners in developing the peace process.

"The talks will also include political representatives from Indonesia, South Africa, Nepal and Guatemala.

"Sinn Féin continues to support the Colombian peace process and the ongoing attempts to create an inclusive, negotiated and democratic settlement."
