Anderson praises life-saving efforts of crew of LÉ Róisín
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has praised the crew of the Irish naval vessel, LÉ Róisín, for saving 274 refugees from the Mediterranean.
Ms Anderson said;
"I want to pay tribute to the crew of the LÉ Róisín who took part in a life-saving mission in the Mediterranean today, rescuing 274 people.
"This follows on from the work of the crews of the LÉ Eithne and LÉ Niamh who between them saved more than 7,000 lives of men woman and children when they were deployed in the area.
"Now, as we come into the summer months, the international community has a responsibility to act to tackle this humanitarian crisis and prevent further tragic deaths in the region."
