Curran condemns armed raid in Leopardstown

27 May, 2016 - by Chris Curran

Local Sinn Féin Councillor Chris Curran has said today’s armed robbery at Leopardstown Shopping Centre, the second such raid since the closure of Stepaside Garda Station, is another indictment of this and the last government and their shameful lack of Garda resources in Dublin 18.

Councillor Curran said;

“This is another horrific and disgusting armed robbery at Leopardstown Shopping Centre this morning.

“It seems that the raider brandished a gun while the cash in transit security guards were arriving to refill the machine, in the midst of local shoppers.

“Apparently, the raider followed the same route as the last robbery.

“Accounts, I received were that the vehicle was abandoned nearby and the raider escaped on foot into The Gallops estate in Leopardstown.

“This is another indictment on this government and the last and their shameful lack of Garda resources in Dublin 18. It's no coincidence that the number of such attacks has increased while the number of Gardaí has dropped in the area.

“I can only imagine the shock to the staff and members of the public who witnessed the raid and I wish them well.

“I understand that the Gardaí have the car that was used in the raid and hopefully sufficient forensic evidence will be available to find those responsible.”
