FF/FG must come clean on their Backroom Deal – O’Reilly
Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly has said that it is incredulous that the Chief Whip Regina Doherty was not aware that Fianna Fáil were granted three of the Taoiseach’s nominees for the Seanad ahead of time. Deputy O’Reilly also voiced her fears as to what else was agreed between Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin that even their own parties are oblivious of.
The TD for Dublin Fingal said:
“When my Dáil colleague Peadar Tóibín directly asked Regina Doherty on radio yesterday whether she knew of the latest element of the secret deal with Fianna Fáil, she said that she didn’t know in advance. The Chief Whip was kept in the dark with the rest of us that a so-called opposition party would be able to appoint Senators.
“What else is contained within this secret deal? It seems only Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin are privy to what surprises lay ahead of us. These shady backroom deals are another nail in the coffin of ‘new politics’, at every turn an Taoiseach has frustrated any chance of reform by reverting back to the old ways of doing business.
“We need to know the details of these deals of how our Government is going to run.”
