Ancient East tourism initiative should be extended cross border – McMullan
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the entire east coast of Ireland should be marketed equally as part of the Ireland's Ancient East tourism initiative.
The East Antrim MLA said;
"The Ireland's Ancient East initiative was launched last year to promote tourism all along the east coast and its hinterlands but bizarrely it stops at the border.
"It does not include the ancient Glens of Antrim, the Mournes and our beautiful and historic coastline which is unacceptable.
"Tourists regard Ireland as a single entity and it should be marketed as such. Just like the Wild Atlantic Way should not stop at the border on the west coast, Ireland's Ancient East should cover the entire east coast.
"I have requested a meeting with Fáilte Ireland, who deliver the Ireland's Ancient East to discuss how it can be extended to cover the entire island, north and south."
