McGrattan calls on DCC CEO to clarify privatisation comments
Reacting to media reports this morning in which Dublin City Council CEO Eoin Keegan threatened to privatise street cleaning and housing maintenance services, the Sinn Féin council group has called on the CEO to clarify his comments.
Group leader Cllr Séamas McGrattan said:
“The CEO needs to clarify his comments immediately. It is not acceptable that councillors should hear about this in the media. Mr Keegan needs to make a statement on the issue to this Monday’s Council meeting.
“The decision to rezone this land was a democratic decision made by councillors as part of our development plan. The area has been deprived of green space and sporting facilities for many years, so the councillors rezoned the land to support the community's efforts to get a playing pitch in the area.
“Sinn Féin has also been in contact with SIPTU today and wants the Council to reassure the hundreds of workers who would be affected by any move to privatise services. There are currently 560 people working in the housing maintenance section along, and they need to reassured that their jobs are safe.”
