Psychiatric Nurses industrial action requires immediate Ministerial intervention – McDonald
Sinn Féin All-Ireland Spokesperson on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Mary Lou McDonald TD has called on Minister Simon Harris to intervene immediately to resolve the growing crisis as the Psychiatric Nurses Association announce a work to rule beginning on 29th June.
Speaking this evening, Deputy McDonald said:
“I call on the Minister for Health Simon Harris to fully engage with the Psychiatric Nurses Association and address their real and urgent concerns without further delay.
“The PNA have flagged a growing crisis in our mental health services for some time, so it should come as no surprise to Minister Harris that this crisis is not just growing, but escalating and is not going away.
“Psychiatric nurses should not be left with the intolerable choice of continuing to work with inadequate resources and insufficient staffing levels or take industrial action.
“The Minister should outline without delay proposals to resolve this crisis immediately and prevent it from escalating any further.”
