McMullan raises concerns concerns about online firearms licence applications
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said changes to the firearm licence application process could cause difficulties for people in rural areas.
Mr McMullan said;
"I met today with representatives of gun clubs who expressed concerns about changes to the process to apply for firearms licences.
"At the end of April it was announced that the application process for a firearms licence will move wholly online by August.
"This will not suit everyone, particularly those in rural areas where access to reliable broadband can be a problem.
"I would be particularly concerned about the impact this could have on the farming community.
"While there is no doubt that online applications can speed up the process, provision should also be made for those who do not have internet access.
"Using shared computers in publicly accessed buildings could raise issues around security for an application like this.
"I will be raising the matter with the PSNI to discuss these concerns."
