Minister must explain failure to refer ‘malice’ claims to GSOC - Adams

11 June, 2016 - by Gerry Adams TD

Uachtaráin Shinn Féin, Gerry Adams TD, has asked Minister for Justice, Francis Fitzgerald to explain her failure to pass on complaints to GSOC, that two Gardaí had alleged that whistleblower Maurice McCabe was acting in ‘malice’.

Speaking today Gerry Adams said,

“The government has failed to address key issues of best practices and accountability of an Gardaí.

“Again this week we learn that the Justice Minister has failed to act on a recommendation of the Garda Commissioner.

“On the 19th May the Garda Commission belatedly asked the Justice Minister to refer to GSOC, the claim that two Gardaí alleged that a whistle blower was acting ‘in malice’.

“On Thursday in a reply to the Sinn Féin Justice spokesperson, Jonathon O’Brien, the Minister confirmed that she had not passed on this complaint.

“This is totally unacceptable.

“The Minister must now explain this delay.”
