Sinn Féin delegation challenges Villiers over collusion

13 June, 2016 - by Martin McGuinness

Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness and Caitriona Ruane today met British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers in the wake of the Police Ombudsman’s report, which concluded there had been state collusion in the 1994 Loughinisland massacre.

Speaking afterwards, Martin McGuinness commented:

"The Ombudsman's report is a damning indictment of state agencies and a damning indictment of the then British government and that is precisely what we told Theresa Villiers.

"This is a report which found that state agencies has been involved in the importation of arms, mass murder and the subsequent cover-up.

“It laid bare the extent of their involvement in the conflict and no one believes for one second that all of that was going on without the knowledge of their political masters in Whitehall."

The Sinn Féin delegation also told Ms Villiers she had added to the hurt of victims through comments defending the RUC and British Army.
