Ó Snodaigh announces Oireachtas Committee Chairpersons
Sinn Féin Chief Whip, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, following the allocation of Oireachtas Committee Chairperson’s positions last week, has announced this morning the Sinn Féin TDs being nominated as Chairs of the Justice and Equality; Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and the Gaeltacht, and Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Committees.
Teachta Ó Snodaigh said:
“I am pleased to say that Sinn Féin have chosen three important Oireachtas Committees to Chair under last week’s D’Hondt allocation and are nominating a strong, experienced team of TDs who will work to facilitate the open and accountable scrutiny of Ministerial and Departmental work in the coming Dáil term. They will also work toward expanding the development of all-Ireland co-operation and decision making with their counterparts in the Assembly.
“Oireachtas Committees play an important role in the legislative process through pre-legislative scrutiny, dealing with amendments to Bills and discussing Departmental budgets, as well as conducting public hearings, and a strong Chairperson is vital to their function.
“The Sinn Féin nominees for the positions of Oireachtas Chairs are: Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, who will Chair the Justice and Equality Committee; Peadar Tóibín TD, who will Chair the Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and Gaeltacht Committee, and Kathleen Funchion TD, who will Chair the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Committee.”
