Adams condemns Government appeal of Moore St. High Court ruling
Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams TD has condemned the decision by the government this morning to appeal the High Court decision in March which protects the 1916 Moore Street battlefield site.
In response to a question from Gerry Adams, the Taoiseach confirmed that the Cabinet this morning took the decision to appeal the High Court judgement.
Gerry Adams said:
“I am horrified by the government’s decision to appeal the High Court judgement to protect the Moore Street Battlefield site.
“It is scandalous that in the centenary year of the Rising that the government would refuse to uphold a court judgement that would protect Moore Street and its environs that are part of the legacy of 1916.
“Instead of defending and protecting the historical legacy of the Rising the government is putting the rights of developers and profiteers first.
“The government decision, if successful, will destroy a key part of north Dublin that is at the heart of the Rising and of the Revolutionary history of Ireland.
“I want to commend the 1916 families, their legal team and the people of the district who have campaigned tirelessly for this historic site.
“I appeal to everyone who supports the protection of the Moore St. battlefield site to oppose the government’s decision.”
