New politics looks very like old politics to me – Adams
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD, speaking during a debate on Sinn Féin’s Rent Certainty Bill in the Dáil this evening, has said Fianna Fáil’s position of rallying against the Government at every opportunity, but then voting with them in the lobbies is “an absurd position”.
Teachta Adams said:
“The Rent Certainty Bill introduced by Deputy Eoin Ó Broin is a positive that would help to tackle the current crisis in the rental sector and help to alleviate the homelessness emergency, and I would appeal to all Deputies to support it.
“I would appeal in particular to Fianna Fáil to support it.
“They come in here every day and rally against something the Government has done, or hasn’t done, in line with popular opinion. And yet, they then go and vote with the Government, or in the Government’s interests in the lobbies. It’s an absurd position.
“New politics looks very like old politics to me. We have the Fianna Fáil party backing up Fine Gael in pursuit of a bad policy agenda that is creating great stress and unfairness the lives of citizens.
“Fianna Fáil are as implicit in the decisions, and failures, of this Government as Fine Gael and the smattering of Independents propping them up.”
