Woodburn policing costs would be better spent in the community - MuMullan
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the cost spent on policing the site of controversial drilling at Woodburn would be better spent on community policing.
The East Antrim MLA said;
"I have raised concerns publicly about the nature of the policing operation at the site of Woodburn Forest near Carrickfergus.
"Just last week I questioned the scale of the policing operation at Woodburn with up to six police vehicles at the site at any one time and, at times, even a helicopter, despite the fact the protest has been peaceful and dignified on the whole.
"I questioned the necessity of this as well as the cost and now it has emerged that it has cost almost £200,000 since February.
"That is outrageous and there is no doubt that money would have been far better spent on community policing, tackling crime in rural areas."
