McElduff welcomes apology from Education Authority
Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has welcomed an apology from the Education Authority about its decision to cut Pre-School Provision in Special Schools and also the manner in which the Authority communicated the decision to school principals and parents.
Speaking after a briefing from the Education Authority the Education Committee Chair in the Assembly said:
“I welcome the apology from the Education Authority.
“As Chair is the Committee, I sought an apology from the Education Authority for the way they communicated the decision to parents, schools and stakeholders to cut provision from full time to part-time hours.
“The Committee can appreciate and understand the financial pressure the Education Authority work under. However, we are angry at the way in which they communicated the decision to parents, the schools and the statutory bodies.
“The public needs to know this can never be allowed to happen again.
“The Education Authority needs to build better and stronger relationships with parents, schools and relevant bodies and demonstrate clearly that they will cherish all of our children in all of our schools.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
