Waste Management companies trying to squeeze the last penny out of vulnerable customers – Reilly
Dublin City Councillor Noeleen Reilly has criticised the big waste management companies across Dublin who have advised customers this week of massive increases in their charges.
Speaking today, Cllr Reilly said:
“I have had countless numbers of residents contact me in relation to increases in their waste management charges.
“Some families are being quoted increases of over 150%. This is unacceptable.
“One of the last acts of the Labour/Fine Gael government was to allow companies to essentially charge what they want.
“Illegal dumping costs Dublin City Council €500,000 per annum. The privatisation of the bins was not only an unmitigated disaster for customers, but also the environment.
“I have no doubt we will see further increases in illegal dumping which is already a scourge for too many of our communities.
“The Government need to introduce immediate legalisation to stop this level of charging and put manners on these companies who are trying to squeeze the last penny out of low to medium income families.”
