Centenary Ard Fheis to cover wide range of topics - Caitriona Ruane
Speaking at the launch of the Sinn Féin Clár for the Ard Fheis 2005 the party's MLA for South Down, Caitriona Ruane said, "The central message coming out of this Ard Fheis will be Sinn Féin's commitment to seeing the peace process advanced and the preparation for Irish unity and our campaign for radical social and economic change."
"Ard Fheis 2005 takes on an added significance in this the 100th anniversary of Sinn Féin. It is about re-popularizing and celebrating republicanism in our centenary year. It is about taking our positive policies and message to the Irish people, who are endorsing Sinn Fein in ever increasing numbers.
"A wide variety of topics will be under discussion this coming weekend ranging from the peace process, Irish unity, health, protection of public services, the EU Constitution and housing. Some of the motions under discussion will include calls for the immediate incorporation of the Six Counties into the Euro zone, Opposition to water charges in the Six Counties, the extension of smoking ban to the north, Opposition to Employee Share Ownership Plans as a key element of the Irish Governments privatisation programs, a single mobile phone tariff for all of Ireland, a motion aimed at tackling the under-representation of people from disadvantaged areas in the legal profession.
"A number of policy and discussion documents will also be presented to the Ard Fheis covering the areas of Waste Management, Drugs, the EU Constitution and a revised and updated version of Sinn Féin's Constitution and Rules.
"People are ready for change; they are looking for alternative answers. It is our responsibility to convince them that there is only one radical alternative, and it is Sinn Féin. That is the message which we will be sending out this weekend.
"And that work will begin immediately as visitors to the Ard Fheis will at different stages leave the conference to join with Joe Reilly on the campaign trail in Meath for the by-election." ENDS
