Call for Stepaside Garda Station to be reopened and properly staffed
Sinn Féin Councillor for Glencullen Sandyford Chris Curran has again called for the immediate reopening of Stepaside Garda Station.
Speaking this afternoon Councillor Curran said;
“It's been four months since the Stepaside rally at which the successful general election candidates pledged their support to have station reopened.
“Furthermore, if a deal has been done between Fine Gael and Minister Shane Ross, it's only fair that the people of Dublin Rathdown are informed as the issue was central to the campaign.
"Reopening the station is only the first step in a series of necessary actions to restore a sense of security within the community.
“Garda numbers in the area that covers Stepaside are dangerously low. Just a couple of weeks ago we had another cash-in-transit robbery in Leopardstown.
“I’m concerned that the station might be ‘symbolically’ reopened with inadequate Garda numbers to provide the required range of services of the modern Garda Station.
“To reopen the station, without sufficient Garda numbers would merely represent a fudge. The station must be reopened but it must also be staffed properly with adequate numbers of Gardaí.”
