McDonald has called for the full implementation of ‘Vision for Change’
Speaking today at the launch of the PNA Evaluation Report, Sinn Féin’s All Ireland spokesperson on mental health and suicide awareness, Deputy McDonald said;
“The report from the PNA is disturbing. It outlines a consistent failure of implementation of a national policy on mental health. The report highlights once again a severely under resourced mental health service leading, as the reports states, to ‘many gaps in service provision’.
“The findings outlined in today’s report from the PNA are not new. This government and previous governments have failed to honour their commitments on ‘Vision for Change’.
I find it incredible that ten years after Vision for Change, we still have a mental health service that is as the report states ‘both incomplete locally and inconsistent nationally’.
“I call on the Minister for Health Simon Harris to fully implement the recommendations outlined in the report and provide the resources to ensure that our people have the services and supports they require and deserve.”
