Doherty calls for big attendance at National Demonstration to protest car insurance costs on Saturday
Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has called for a big attendance at Saturday’s National Demonstration to protest excessive motor insurance costs in Dublin.
Speaking from a packed Public Meeting in Dublin on the issue this evening, Deputy Doherty said:
“I am calling for a big attendance at the National Demonstration to protest excessive motor insurance costs organised by the Ireland Underground campaign group this Saturday. There are convoys organised across the State. I commend the work of Ireland Underground in organising this event.
“It is time for drivers who have had enough to show the insurers and government that they are fed up with the rip off. Only last week, I discovered that the government’s so-called taskforce hasn’t even begun discussing the causes behind the increases after months in operation. This sums up the government’s approach of ‘do nothing and hope for change’ and it is not good enough.
“I have constantly raised the issue of the unsustainable business model of the insurance industry and the lax regulatory environment that allowed that model to dominate the market. It is time for action on this issue and I will continue to push for greater transparency and consistency so Irish drivers will not be ripped off anymore.”
