Ireland is not an offshore island of Britain - Ó Donnghaile

30 June, 2016 - by Niall Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile has said RTÉ needs to realise Ireland is not an offshore island of Britain.

Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said;

"I was disappointed to read a news article on the RTÉ website today which used the phrase to 'the mainland' in reference to Britain.

"I had to check the date to make sure it was correct and not a historical article from a century ago or not a reference to Toraigh, Árainn Mhór or Rathlin.

"While disappointing, it is hardly surprising from an organisation which has recently attempted to deny Irish language commentary services to viewers in the North.

"Not only are they labouring under the misapprehension that the country stops at an imaginary line on the map but they now seem to be trying to turn the clock back with this politically and factually incorrect phrase."
