Sinn Féin briefs Diplomatic Corps in Dublin
Sinn Féin today held a briefing for the Diplomatic Corps based in Dublin to explain the party’s view on political developments in Ireland.
Over 20 Embassies were represented and they were briefed on Sinn Féin’s views on the Brexit result and the party’s call for the creation of a National Forum.
Speaking after the briefing Mary Lou McDonald said:
“Today Sinn Féin held a very positive Embassy Briefing in Leinster House.
“I was joined by Conor Murphy MLA, Lynn Boylan MEP, and Senator Fintan Warfield, and we spoke at length with the Diplomatic Corps about our view of political development in Ireland and Europe.
“We explained Sinn Féin's call for the establishment of a National Forum and how it would bring together all of the different strands of opinion on the island of Ireland to discuss our future in the EU following the Brexit vote.
“We also left those in attendance in no doubt that we believe, in the aftermath of this Brexit vote, that there is an onus on the Irish government to defend the Good Friday Agreement and its institutions, and the island of Ireland in future negotiations.
“Additionally we explained how we felt the EU has a glaring democratic deficit and that it needs to radically reform.”
