O’Toole’s remarks wholly inappropriate and must be withdrawn – Ó Broin
Responding today to comments made by the Chair of the water charges expert Commission Joe O’Toole, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Water Eoin Ó Broin TD said his remarks were “wholly inappropriate” and ‘should be withdrawn’.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The comments made today by the Chair of the expert commission on water are wholly inappropriate and he should withdraw his comments and apologise.
“If he fails to do so, Minister Coveney should call on him to withdraw the remarks and apologise.
“As chair of this Commission, Mr. O’Toole must take into account every view on the future of water services in Ireland.
“Unhelpful commentary like this undermines work of the commission and belittling the views of a large swathe of the electorate and the politicians they elected casts a shadow over the work of the Commission.
“The majority of TDs elected to the 32nd Dáil were elected on an anti-water charges platform.
“For the expert Commission to have a level of credibility, Mr. O’Toole must now retract the comments he made this morning.”
