Anderson meets president of European Council to discuss referendum
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson met today with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk to discuss the impact of the EU referendum on Ireland.
Ms Anderson said;
"I met today with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, in the European Parliament to discuss the potential consequences of Brexit for Ireland.
"I explained to him the people of the North of Ireland made it clear in the referendum they wish to remain in the EU.
"That democratically expressed view must be respected and I reminded him that the European institutions have a role to play in that.
"In our conversation I told him we cannot have a situation where one part of our island is a member of the EU and the other is not."
