Insufficient Funding available for Housing Adaptation in County Offaly – Nolan
Sinn Féin TD for the Offaly and North Tipperary Constituency, Deputy Carol Nolan, has criticised the lack of funding available for Housing Adaptation for people with a disability in the Offaly area.
Deputy Nolan said:
“I am very concerned about the impact of reduced funding for the provision of Housing Adaptation for people with disabilities in Co. Offaly.
“Recently, I made representations on behalf of a number of constituents who require necessary works to their accommodation in order to facilitate their needs.
“It is extremely concerning to be informed that, even if an applicant is deemed to be a priority 1 case by a relevant professional, the council will not be able to process the application for a number of years.
“Currently, the average waiting time for an application to be processed is three years although I am aware of some cases that are waiting even longer.
“I am aware that council officials are trying to process applications as quickly as possible and their hands are tied on this issue.
“I will be seeking to raise this matter with the relevant Minister in the Dáil in order to impress upon him the need to ensure that adequate funding is made available to process these applications in a timely manner.”
