Nolan welcomes progress on Ardara Bridge
Sinn Féin TD for the Offaly/ North Tipperary constituency has today welcomed confirmation from the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht that the Department is committed to the preservation of the Ardara Bridge.
Deputy Nolan said:
“I raised the issue of the conservation of the Ardara Bridge in a recent Dáil debate on heritage issues with the Minister.
“This bridge has been in an awful state of disrepair since 2007 when it was on verge of collapse and I would like to acknowledge the work that has taken place to stabilise the structure.
“I am pleased that the Office of Public Works is now looking at a more long term solution for the preservation of the bridge structure.
“The Minister has confirmed in a recent letter to me that the procurement process to identify and engage an appropriate contractor to undertake the site investigation has been completed and that Ministerial consent will be in place shortly to progress the project.
“I am also heartened by the Minsters’ assertions that the project will be ‘concluded with a positive result for the Monument in terms of its future preservation’.
“I will continue to engage with the Minister and the Office of Public Works on this issue to help ensure that the progress on this bridge continues at a timely pace.”
