May's desperation over the union is clear - McElduff
Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has said there is clearly desperation in new British Prime Minister Theresa May's comments on the union.
Mr McElduff said;
"In her first remarks as new British Prime Minister Theresa May claimed that the word unionist is very dear to her but it seems that she is protesting too much.
"Given the turmoil in the British political system brought about by her predecessor's decision to hold a referendum on EU membership there is clearly desperation in her comments.
"The reality is that the union is in a more precarious position now than at any time in its history.
"The people of the North voted to remain in the EU against the wishes of many leading Tories, as did the people of Scotland.
"The Scots will most likely now look for another independence referendum and, as Irish republicans, we want to see a referendum on Irish unity."
